Sam is a composer, lyricist, and playwright mixing the scientific, the political, and the personal to create relatable stories about the unfamiliar. Their work reflects their identity as a butch lesbian, and their interests and expertise in environmental justice, civil engineering, flood management, and entomology.
Currently, Sam resides in Brooklyn, where they are developing Bury Your Gays, a new musical comedy about nature, obsession, and insectoid eldritch monsters. The musical will be featured Off-Broadway at the SheNYC Arts Festival this July. In December 2025, Bury Your Gays enjoyed a concert presentation at Bechdel Project presented by Ring of Keys; another concert will be presented in June as part of FRIGID's Queerly Festival at Under St. Mark's.
Sam's play Jungle Restaurant had a workshop production at Caveat in October, 2025, and was featured Off-Broadway in SoHo Playhouse's Lighthouse Series in May, 2026.
Sam graduated from Princeton University, where she was the head writer of the Princeton Triangle Club. Other original musicals include Mangroves, a musical comedy about climate change, activism, and self-awareness (currently being re-developed), and The Woman Who Built the Brooklyn Bridge, a children's musical introducing engineering concepts.
